Bidding is open for the auction of the astonishing personal collection belonging to life-long automotive enthusiast, the Late Peter Briggs.
Almost 1000 items are being offered in the timed on-line auction, which runs from 6 to 17 October, and begins closing at 2pm AEDT on that final day.
‘The Collection of the Late Peter Briggs Auction’ is in two parts, with Part 1 focusing on his personal cars including vehicles formerly displayed at the York Motor Museum, which the West Australian businessman and entrepreneur co-founded.
In the Part II, Briggs’ incredible collection of automotive books, models, car badges, rare original artworks, event posters, framed period photographs and blueprints, collectible marque postage stamps, and even company share certificates, are all being auctioned.
Stars of the first part of the auction include a 1977 Holden Torana A9X Hatchback Group C racer, formerly owned by Briggs, and which Bob Morris used to win the 1979 Australian Touring Car Championship. Today it is widely recognised as the most original and best preserved Touring Car of the period.
By contrast, there is also a c1920 Australian Six Tourer, a rare example of one of the first Australian-made cars.
And for something a little left field, how about a 1946 Type 1 Volkswagen Beetle, one of the oldest post-war examples in the world!
Included in the auction too are eight historic motorcycles, four of them very early and highly-specialised speedway bikes.
